Testimonials

We take a great deal of pride in our loft conversion work, so we are naturally delighted when a client or fellow professional takes the trouble to put in writing their appreciation of what we have done and the standards we maintain.

Here are just a few of the many letters we have received.

Dear Steve,

During the final inspection you suggested we write you a letter which you could show to future clients. We’re very pleased to do so because our loft conversion is exactly what we wanted and exactly what you said you would build.
Having seen you working for many weeks, turning up every day on time, we soon realised you are hard-working and very trustworthy and we developed a very good relationship in which you were open to our suggestions and willing to give advice based on your experience. You were keen for us to see how you were progressing and when we were too cowardly to climb your ladder you took photographs for us. You were even happy for our neighbour to go up to look at their roof and see how our loft extension connected with theirs. They approved -so no problems with next-door.

We appreciated your network of professionals who did the plastering, electrical work, plumbing, scaffolding, tiling and roofing whom you obviously brought in because they are very good at their jobs. Like you they we also personable, tidy and professional; and going by the friendly chatter we heard you’ve used them for years. You arranged for them to turn up at just the right time for each job – even dealing with their summer holidays. For instance the roofer returned from holiday on a Wednesday and next day appeared on our roof. Before you came we’d had an intermittent leak and while you were up there with him you spotted the problem (unrelated to the loft conversion) and arranged for it to be fixed.

Good though the others were, we soon realised that your excellent craftsmanship and carpentry skills were the most important ingredient of the mix. You often worked alone or with Malcolm, and we saw the quality of your carpentry and the care you took. Most of this ended up hidden under plasterboard but it’s the basis of everything and needs to be sound. All the visible results of your carpentry were perfect bannisters, skirting boards, architraves, window ledges and the entrance to the storage area. So it looks good and we are confident the hidden structure is good.

We experienced virtually no disruption while you worked because you let yourself into the loft through a hole in the roof at the front each morning, and closed it every night with tiles. Apart from an electric wire going through our sealed trap door we hardly knew you were there no loud radio and certainly no loud shouting (and no builders’ swearing either!).

We stayed away for a couple of nights while you broke through the ceiling and installed the new staircase. When we returned we were very surprised at how clean the place was. All doors had been sealed so that none of the black dust got into our rooms and you had clearly taken great care with dust sheets because our hallway floors were clean – just some dust on the door mouldings and some streaks on the wall. You showed us a bag of black sooty dust you’d swept up none of which remained.

You were tidy and methodical throughout the work. There was no skip outside -you took rubbish home with you every night. Even the pile of heavy old tiles from the back roof went quickly.

You made us feel involved. We told you what height we wanted the Velux window, and once it was installed you came down and told us the actual measurements, which corresponded almost exactly with ours. You brought us various coloured tiles so we could choose the most appropriate ones for the dormer and were very patient when we dithered for longer then we should have done. All the time we were kept reassured. I recall an interesting chat with you about the quality of the wood on offer at various builders’ merchants, how a lot of it was substandard (wet, twisted, knotted etc.) and how you’d been to Lewes and then been obliged to drive all the way to Shoreham to get some decent joists. As you said – who is buying the bad stuff and where does it go?

The whole process was so much less stressful than we thought it would be. No cowering downstairs not knowing what was going on. The windows, lights and electrical sockets were installed just where we wanted them. The new bannisters match the old. You even provided your own tea so the only thing we had to give you was the occasional glass of water when it was really hot.

We are very pleased with our new loft. We saw a number of companies who said they would do the job but we felt we wanted an individual builder who would be on site all the time; someone to speak to whenever we wanted, face to face; someone who would organise and supervise known and trusted professionals needed to complete the task. We are convinced we chose the right person to build it. If any of your prospective clients want to talk to us please feel free to give them our details.
Thanks for all your hard work. Now we have to decide what colour to paint it!

Dear Steve,

It has been a very enjoyable journey and at no stage did we feel like it was hindrance and that is entirely down to the way you run your business. From the first consultation with ourself where it was clear to me that you have a level of experience and expertise that is second to none This quickly proved to be the case when the scaffold was installed on time and very efficiently. I was especially impressed by being asked if there were any special requirements and the drive way not being obstructed made life much easier for us throughout the process.

Next came the first day when yourself and Jez were promptly on site by 07:30 ready for an 08:00 start, this proved to be the case without fail for the whole project (Even when it snowed!) Work quickly started to get done and I really appreciated being invited up each day to be shown the progress being made but also (and more importantly) to be consulted on any decisions where you felt it was required.

As the work progressed we were also excited to meet the different people that worked with you and it gave us a high level of assurance that all the work being completed would be to the same exceptional standard. We would really like to extend our thanks to Leon (Electrics), Malcolm (Plumbing) Paul (Roofing) and Nick (Plastering) for their part on our project.

Dear Steve,

We would like to thank you once again for all the hard work put into our loft conversion. You and your team were true professionals, which is quite rare these days!

From our first meeting with you there was great communication and the project plan, timing, costs and payment schedule were all very clear.

Throughout the process there was minimal disruption (dust/dirt) to our home due to your care and consideration. We were constantly reassured by your regular progress updates. We really appreciated your recommendations and advice on some changes to the initial designs that resulted in a better outcome and saved us some cash.

There was not one element of the project delivery that did not go smoothly. The job was finished earlier than expected and we are incredibly pleased with the quality of work.

We would have no hesitation in recommending you to anyone else and are hoping that we can use you again in the future for our kitchen extension.

Dear Steve,

We are writing to express our thanks for the outstanding job you have done on our loft conversion. We were really pleased with both the speed at which the work was complete and the high standards that you and the team work to. Thank you for all the “added extras” like the spindles and for always keeping the house clean and tidy.

We have now started decorating and hope that all the finishing touches will be completed soon. We will invite you round to see the completed works!

Many thanks again for all your hard work. We wouldn’t hesitate in recommending you.

Dear Sir or Madam

This letter is to confirm that Mr Steven Johnson planned and built extensive loft and garage conversions at my properties at 25, Ditchling Crescent, Brighton and 6, Berriedale Avenue, Hove.

His workmanship and timely execution of the required works from inception to completion were exemplary and I would recommend him to anyone needing such works carried out and have done so on several occasions to family, friends and colleagues.

Steve and his fabulous team have just completed a full loft conversion, with a full width dormer and ensuite bathroom.

I cannot recommend All Loft Conversions highly enough. Withing 5 minutes of talking to Steve, when he came to quote for the job, I had absolutely no dooubt that I could trust him implicitly. He took great care to explain the full process and never tired of answering questions. He stood out far and above the other companies that quoted for the conversion and quite obviously took pride in his work.

From start to finish the job was without fault and undertaken to and extraordinarily high standard. The entire team were an absolute pleasure to work with, showed complete respect for our property and never failed to turn up when they said they would. They all showed commitment, dedication and gained personal satisfaction from their superior workmanship.

I was totally amazed at how little disruption the 6 week job caused and wouldn’t have even known the guys were there for most of the time. They all worked hard to keep the mess to a minimum and definitely succeeded!

We are both absolutely delighted with the end result and the job as a whole. It is the little things that make a difference and Steve and his team are masters at making that difference.

I would not hesitate for a second to recommend All Loft Conversions and wish them luck in all future endeavours.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Steve and team, you are complete stars and we appreciate so much your principles and hard work!

Dear Mr Johnson

I would just like to thank you for a job well done and express my gratitude for the care and attention to detail you took when converting my loft.

It is a shame there are so many “cowboy” builders around that get your industry a bad name. This was one of my main worries when I had decided to have the work done.

I am so glad I decided to employ you and your team, you upheld all your promises, were courteous and tidy throughout and had the utmost respect for my home.

Please pass on my thanks to your team.

Dear Sirs,

Re: S. Johnson

I have known the above person both professionally and personally for over 20 years.

As a Building Inspector, on the numerous times I have witnessed his work, it has always been, in my opinion, to be of a good standard and carried out in a responsible manner.

I am also not aware of any other person having made any adverse comments regarding his work in that time.

From a personal perspective he is, in my opinion, an honest, hardworking individual, who would be a suitable member of any relevant trade body or organisation.

Dear Sir

Re: Mr. S Johnson

I have pleasure in answering a request for a reference for Steve Johnson to enable his enrolment into the Institute of Carpenters.

I have been a Senior Building Control Surveyor for the local authority for the past 5 years. Prior to this, I ran a building company employing 20 persons. I served an apprenticeship as a Carpenter and Joiner and taught NVQ level 3 at Northbrook College, Worthing. I would quantify the above as being sufficiently experienced to form the following opinion.

Steve has approximately 25 years experience in carpentry and joinery having served and apprenticeship at Brighton Technical College and passing an Advancced Craft Certificate. Steve is meticulous in planning his workload and his workmanship is unsurpassable. I searched for some time before asking Steve to train my son. I spoke to carpenters who had also been trained by Steve and everyone had nothing but praise for his training and carpentry skills.

I truly believe he would be an asset to the Institute.

Should you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.
